“Are not the angels ministering spirits, sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?”
– Hebrews 1:14
Angels are the trusted messengers of God. They deliver God’s word.
“Bless the LORD, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word!”
– Psalm 103:20
These heralds of God are often charged with delivering the news, visions or signs of something that is about to happen or will happen in the future.
After the birth of Jesus, Herod the Great, who the Romans had appointed as King of the Jews, was going to order his soldiers to search for and kill all of the first-born male children in the vicinity of Bethlehem. Herod had been told by the Magi about the birth of a new born King of the Jews and was worried that he could lose his throne.
An angel informed Joseph to flee Bethlehem with Mary and the baby Jesus so that Jesus would not be killed.
“When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up!” he said. “Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.”
– Matthew 2:13
An angel of God delivered the revelations, or prophecies, of Jesus Christ about what was to come to the apostle John in order for him to deliver these messages to mankind.
The angel delivered visions to John. Jesus Christ was the author. The apostle John wrote down what he saw giving us the biblical New Testament book of Revelation.
“This is the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon come to pass. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John, who testifies to everything he saw. This is the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
– Revelation 1:1-2
