It is said that there is an angel for every purpose under heaven. All angels are messengers that serve as intermediaries communicating spiritual advice between God and mankind, delivering messages between heaven and earth.

All angels have a specialty task they perform. Different angels are assigned to different specific needs.

Why different angels?

All angels are messengers, yet some have very specific roles, from warriors, to guardians, to helpers, to angels of mercy.

Archangels, from the Greek term “chief angel,” are like generals. They oversee and command other angels.

We’ve all heard of Guardian Angels, those angels that watch over a human being from the time that person is born. Guardian angels are but one type of angel, who has a specific role in a person’s life – but not the only role. Other angels also intervene in that same person’s life at various times according to that person’s special needs.

One way to think of the various types of angels is to think of each angel type as a specialist. Here’s an example to illustrate the point…

Think of angels like doctors

We’ve said that all angels are messengers. Yet, they also have other very specific roles and duties. A good parallel to this is to compare angels to doctors.

All doctors are doctors. Yet, doctors have all manner of specialties, from surgeons, to cardiologists, to orthopedic doctors and so on.

You may go to your primary care doctor with a heart problem, and he sends you to a heart specialist to deal with that one specific problem because you will benefit from that doctor’s expertise in the cardiovascular system. Your primary care doctor may send you to an orthopedic doctor when you have a problem with one of your joints or bones, because of that specialist’s advanced knowledge in that area.

It’s the same with angels.

Angel specialists

So you have a guardian angel that watches over you from your birth and throughout your life. As different situations arise in your life, “specialty” angels will intervene and assist in those special areas.

If you need comforting, a comforting angel may be summoned to help bring you comfort. If you need mercy, an angel of mercy will be dispatched to help support you through your desperation or grief. When you’re sick, a healing angel may be called upon to help guide your human caregiver to ensure your healing.

Summoning an angel

As humans, we don’t need to know the type of angel specialist we need. All we need to do is pray. Pray for God to send us an angel. In answering our prayers, God will assign the right angel to support us in our time of need.

It is written:

“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;”

– Psalm 91:11
