“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come!”
– 2 Corinthians 5:17
When you give yourself over to Christ, you are renewed. You could give it a host of other names such as: Reborn, restored, refurbished, reconditioned, recycled, transformed and so on.
“Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”
– Ezekiel 36:26
It’s similar to a restaurant that puts out a sign that says “under new management.” Sure, they still serve food, but they are putting everyone on notice that the way things were done before has changed.
So it is with us when we are changed through Christ. We are still a human being, but the way we are going to do things moving forward will be profoundly changed. Christ is essentially our new manager, and we are going to do our very best to do things Christ-like.
“Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder things of the past.”
– Isaiah 43:18
When we are renewed in Christ, we have to let go of our previous ways of doing things.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
– Psalm 51:10
We need to be renewed not only in our actions, but in our thoughts as well. We need to develop a new mindset that is based on Christ’s teachings, love, truth, righteousness and the holy word of God.
“It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God–that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.”
– 1 Corinthians 1:30
Under our “new management” of Christ, our very spirit become dressed in a new uniform. We put on the armor of God.
“Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth fastened around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed, and with your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace.”
– Ephesians 6:13-15
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
– Ephesians 6:11-12
“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
– Ephesians 6:16-17
